What is Shilajit • Mumijo ?
Shilajit is also known as Mumijo. It is derived from the Greek language, originally meaning 'body-preserving'. Aristotle, the Greek philosopher mentioned it and even gave some tips on how to benefit from it. In Ayurveda, Mumijo is called 'Shilajit' or 'Salajeet' ; 'Nectar of the Gods, The Destroyer of Weakness, The Conqueror of Mountains'. It is considered the most powerful of all remedies; a panacea. Shilajit offers vitality, longevity, and long lasting health.
It is a substance mainly found in the highlands (1000-5000 m above sea level) of the Altai, Himalaya and the Caucasus mountains in Central-Asia. The color range varies from white to pitch-black, depending on composition. For medicinal use the black variant is the most known and covers the widest spectrum.
It is an extremely complex substance, consisting of both organic and inorganic elements. It has compounds of mineral, vegetable and animal origin. Among these are amino acids, organic acids, and a wide spectrum of minerals, both macro-minerals and trace minerals. In Ayurvedic Medicine, Shilajit is also known as Mineral Pitch Vitalizer.
After collection, the raw Shilajit is purified to make sure dirt and other debris are not contaminating the raw substance. This makes it more assimilable, and acceptable to the kidneys.
